A Light Thing

1Ki 16:31 "And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him."

He figured it was no big deal to walk in the sins of Jeroboam, his predecessor. In his mind it was no sin at all, really. He decided to do something really spectacular. Why not marry the daughter of the king of the Sidonians? Hey, why not adopt her religion and set up a temple to her god and worship it?

If you are going to rebel against God you might as well do it on a grand scale. Make a total break with Him altogether. The previous kings had at least paid lip service to Jehovah occasionally. Not this guy. It appears He intended to leave God in the dust, set a new course towards a foreign god. And why not? This god wouldn't challenge his lusts. No indeed. This god would encourage them.

It seems to me we have adopted Ahab's philosophy in America. Only problem is it won't work for us any better than it did for him but that's for another day, aye?
