What Will It Take?

1Ki 18:1  And it came to pass after many days that the word of the LORD came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, "Go, present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the earth."

It seems that Ahab wasn't affected by the fulfillment of Elijah's prophecy that brought drought to the land other than to be exasperated with the prophet for doing so. So a bigger demonstration was needed to get his attention.

How is it that we can get so jaded in our selfishness that we either can't see or we simply choose to ignore the obvious?

When Elijah prophecied that there would be no rain for three years and his word came true it should have been enough to convince Ahab that he and his people needed to change their ways.

The mind that has chosen to follow the dictates of the flesh will not listen to reason or the voice of God. No wonder Paul said the flesh and the Spirit are at odds with each other and cannot be reconciled. They are at opposite ends of the pole.

This truth is being born out in our nation today. When presented with incontrovertible truth (9/11, for instance) men still turn away in disbelief ignoring the hand of God.

It leaves God with no choice but to speak louder and stronger which He did in Elijah's day and He is doing now in ours.

O that men would seek the Lord and not force Him into a place where stronger judgments are needed to wake the conscience and cause them to call upon His name in repentance.
