Zeal and Wisdom

2Sa 6:10 So David would not move the ark of the LORD with him into the City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

Once again a Gentile receives the blessing of God's presence because of Israel's failure to follow the Lord's commands. Throughout scripture we see these places where gentiles are blessed of God and Israel is bypassed for a time.

David had a good idea but not a good plan. For a man who seemed to consult God about everything this is one time he didn't and it was costly. Why did he not do it? There is no explanation given. I think this is one time zeal got ahead of consultation. David's zeal isn't on trial here, but his wisdom is.

The second time he tried to bring the ark up it was successful and just as joyful as the first time was initially, maybe moreso. Why? Because his dream was being realized and also because it was being done with wisdom.

Zeal and wisdom have to go together or everything falls apart.
